This is us, the Jacobsen family, in 2016 with our latest addition to the family, a 1948 Chrysler New Yorker, we affectionately named ‘LUCY the Tank’.
This acquisition was the start of a three year journey to prepare Lucy, and a trailer we purchased in the summer of 2018, for our big family adventure.
But if you were to go further back, what happened to get us to that point, and how did this Idea for a grand adventure all start you might wonder?
A Canadian girl met a South African boy in the Fall of 2003, on a cruise ship In the Caribbean – of all places. Both were adventure lovers and were working on board while ‘travelling the world’. Long story shorter, after three years working on ships, boy and girl decided to make Canada their home, got married and had two amazing children, Ayla in 2007 and Kalen in 2011.
Along the way, the teacher, and now helicopter pilot started a small business in 2008, a photo booth rental company, which experienced a huge amount of success!
After ten years of the proverbial ‘grind’, we started to feel the burnout that comes with working hard. The children were growing like weeds (as they do), and it was there that started the idea of making a change. Perhaps doing something different and having an adventure while the kids were still interested in hanging out with their parents was in the cards!
So three and a half years of working long and hard have finally paid off, We have rented out our home, moved into our trailer and we are finally ready to go. Our kids will be homeschooled on the road, and get a travel education along the way.
TRAVEL – ADVENTURE – FAMILY TIME…because you can always make more of the green stuff, but you can’t get time and opportunities to have experiences back.
We have chosen cancer, and the Balding For Dollars initiative through the BC Children’s Hospital, as our charity of choice for our journey. Cancer has affected our family deeply, just as it has touched most people in some way.
Donations can be made through our website for this amazing cause. Charity donation receipts are available.
